Tooreen Angel justified favouritism and gained a deserved victory in the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Maiden at Dundalk on Monday winning for owner James Martin O’Brien.

Never out of the first three in her four previous starts at Dundalk, the daughter of Battle Of Marengo remained wide throughout, came from mid-field and got into contention halfway down the home straight. She hit the front entering the final furlong and held on to win by a head.

Tooreen Angel is a half-sister to five winners including Tooreen Legend who won 6 races including the Ladies Derby at the Curragh, also in the colours of James Martin O’Brien.

“She deserved that as she’s so consistent. She loves the surface.

“Everytime she’s ran she’s been caught wide but today they went a gallop and it suited. She doesn’t mind being wide in the straight, she’s learning all the time.” jockey, Andrew Slattery.
