Tooreen Katie justified favouritism on Saturday to land the Ashtown House Stud Irish EBF Fillies Maiden at Tramore.

A daughter of Intello, Tooreen Katie made all and battled well inside the final furlong to win by a short head from Grasping at Straws – the pair drew clear from the rest of the field by seven and a half lengths.

Fourth in Group 3 company at Leopardstown on her previous start, Tooreen Katie is owned by Jim O’Brien and was ridden by Chris Hayes.

“She is very consistent, and it’s good to get that out of the way. It’s not the way to ride her (from the front), but we decided to keep it simple. She got very lonely in front but she was the best filly in the race. The track is riding brilliant, absolutely top-class.” Jockey, Chris Hayes
